Soldier from Saltville, Virginia Dies in Iraq

The Department of Defense says a local soldier has died in Iraq while supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In a release, the DoD announced the death of 35 year old Staff Sgt. Chad A. Barrett of Saltville, Virginia, saying he died February 2 in Mosul, Iraq, as a result of a non-combat related incident.

He was assigned to the 64th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo. The incident is under investigation.

News Channel 11 and the Bristol Herald Courier have crews working to gather more information about Barrett and his death. Check back for updates later today.

I truely hate to hear about the death of any American Soldier dying over in Iraq. My heart goes out to the family.
With the election coming soon, one has to wonder how the new President will run the operation over in Iraq. Trying to clean house after all this mess is not going to be an easy job no matter who gets elected President. I just wish all our men and women could come home as soon as possible and not take years to do it in.
Honestly though, if I had a son or daughter over in Iraq right now I sure wouldn't vote for anyone running for president that wants to keep them over there for years to come.

There are alot of non combat deaths over ther. I wonder what are the main causes. Sad news.

Well all that anyone will ever know is what our Govt. wants us to know. I have thought about that too, to be honest I don't put much credit in our Govt. right now. If something happened over there at our own Govt. mistake, I doubt they would admit it. How could anyone prove otherwise?

I wish they would put the burden on Iraq to fight for themselves, cut loose the guys , or just let them come home. They are fighters, not traffic cops and trying to tell the good ones from the bad would be hard at best. And the budget for the next year is less and the next year is not even mentioned in George's plan to balance the budget? How do you do that after spending 400 billion?
